Job Role Summary
This intern will be supporting the breastfeeding side of the WIC
program. Breastfeeding knowledge and experience not required. The
USDA WIC breastfeeding support program includes peer counselors,
IBCLCs and clinic dietitians that work together to provide
resources that enable women on the WIC program to receive
breastfeeding support. An intern will have the opportunity to learn
about the WIC program and breastfeeding through observing in person
consults, assisting with supply ordering and inventory, and
assisting in a reorganization of the current WIC loaner breast pump
program.
Essential Duties
Assessing pump progress and needs for breastfeeding mothers,
arranging pump return/pickup when necessary, assessing when pump
exchange may be needed -
Organizing breast pump inventory in Excel, hard copy files, and in
state-wide tracking website
Observing technical skills and shadowing IBCLCs and peer counselors

Assisting in daily operations of the WIC breastfeeding program
including hands on appointments supporting breastfeeding mothers
and phone triage and counseling when appropriate
Basic analysis project of Breastfeeding rates in Marion County

Literature review of evidence-based practice in breastfeeding
support -
Qualifications
High School degree required -
Bachelors preferred, in dietetics, nursing or healthcare related
field -
Working knowledge of social determinants of health and health
disparities -
Interest in supporting breastfeeding -
Basic Microsoft office and computer skills required -
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic computer skills -
Bilingual preferred, not required -
Understanding of basic public health issues -
Ability to follow instructions and work independently -
Working Environment
Drivers license required -
Business casual or scrubs attire
